BUILDFest

Tuesday, June 4th, 2019
5:30 – 8:30 pm
Boston Marriott Copley Place

The BUILDFest Pitch Challenge celebrates the culmination of a year of hard work by our ninth-grade students, as well as the transformative power of entrepreneurship. The night begins with a Student Business Expo, during which student teams have the opportunity to showcase their businesses and to sell their unique products at a family-friendly reception. Following the Expo, three finalists compete in the Final Round of our Shark-Tank style competition, pitching their businesses in front of guests and a panel of special VIP judges to win cash prizes.

Double Charge Wins the 2017 BPC

2018 BPC Highlights

At the 2018 BUILDFest Pitch Challenge, three ninth grade student businesses competed in a Shark-Tank Style pitch in front of guests and VIP judges, Jane Steinmetz, Bob Davis, Ivy Brown, and Katie Rae. Out of the three teams – Cultural Secrets Cookbook, Spice Kit, and Bottom Feeders – two students, Joshua and Katio, took home the first place cash prize for their product Bottom Feeders: an adhesive vinyl sheet that prevents unwanted objects from sticking to the bottom of sneakers. The event raised more than $650,000 for BUILD’s four-year youth entrepreneurship program with nearly 600 attendees and more than 50 company sponsors.

Help Us BUILD Futures

How do you provide under-served young people with the resources they need to succeed? At BUILD, we do it by helping our students start their own small businesses. As they reap the rewards – from keeping the profits to gaining self-confidence – they know there is a connection between hard work and success. Entrepreneurship is the hook, but college is the goal – 96% of BUILD seniors graduate on time, compared to 73% of low income seniors nationwide and 81% of all students nationwide.
