The BUILDFest Pitch Challenge celebrates the culmination of a year of hard work by our ninth-grade students, as well as the transformative power of entrepreneurship. The night begins with a Student Business Expo, during which student teams have the opportunity to showcase their businesses and to sell their unique products at a family-friendly reception. Following the Expo, three finalists compete in the Final Round of our Shark-Tank style competition, pitching their businesses in front of guests and a panel of special VIP judges to win cash prizes.

BUILDFest Pitch Challenge

We’ve transformed the BUILDFest gala into a fresh new event: the BUILDFest Pitch Challenge! Instead of sponsoring tables, supporters will sponsor our student business teams as they compete in a Shark Tank-style pitch competition in front of a panel of special VIP judges

Double Charge Wins the 2017 BPC

2017 BPC Highlights

At the 2017 BUILDFest Pitch Challenge, four ninth grade student business finalists competed in a Shark-Tank Style pitch in front of guests and notable guests judges, Deval Patrick, Jerod Mayo, Jane Steinmetz, and Bill Wagner. Out of the four teams – Roll n’ Go, Razzle Dazzle, Orphan Socks, and Double Charge – two students, Elvis and D’Ahman, took home the first place cash prize for their product Double Charge: a combination water bottle koozie and phone charger. The event raised $600,000 for BUILD’s four-year youth entrepreneurship program with over 600 attendees and 20 company sponsors.

Help Us BUILD Futures

How do you provide under-served young people with the resources they need to succeed? At BUILD, we do it by helping our students start their own small businesses. As they reap the rewards – from keeping the profits to gaining self-confidence – they know there is a connection between hard work and success. Entrepreneurship is the hook, but college is the goal – 96% of BUILD seniors graduate on time, compared to 73% of low income seniors nationwide and 81% of all students nationwide.
