The BUILDFest Pitch Challenge celebrates the culmination of a year of hard work by our ninth-grade students, as well as the transformative power of entrepreneurship. The night begins with a Student Business Expo, during which student teams have the opportunity to showcase their businesses and to sell their unique products at a family-friendly reception. Following the Expo, three finalists compete in the Final Round of our Shark-Tank style competition, pitching their businesses in front of guests and a panel of special VIP judges to win cash prizes.

At the 2019 BUILDFest Pitch Challenge, three ninth grade student businesses competed in a Shark-Tank Style pitch in front of guests and VIP judges, Kevin O’Leary aka “Mr. Wonderful” from ABC’s Shark Tank, Corey Thomas, Melissa MacDonnell, and Jane Steinmetz. Out of the three teams – Fashion Tie, Date-A-Bowl, and Dust Mac – Team Dust Mac, took home the first place cash prize for their product, an attachable broom comb to wipe gunk off the bottom of your broom. Help Us BUILD Futures

How do you provide under-served young people with the resources they need to succeed? At BUILD, we do it by helping our students start their own small businesses. As they reap the rewards – from keeping the profits to gaining self-confidence – they know there is a connection between hard work and success. Entrepreneurship is the hook, but college is the goal – 98% of BUILD seniors graduate on time, compared to 73% of low income seniors nationwide and 81% of all students nationwide.About BUILD
